Paradise for parents and kids alike—that succinctly sums up KINDERPUNKT09, Linz09’s family-friendly facility on Hauptplatz. On December 20th, this popular Capital of Culture year feature will bow out in style with a celebration for the young and the young-at-heart.

Approximately 17,000 visitors took advantage of KINDERPUNKT09 during the Capital of Culture year. This conveniently located space with a very imaginatively designed interior conceived by the ZOOM Children’s Museum in cooperation with Linz09 offers exactly what young families are looking for: a nice relaxing spot to rest, play, change diapers and breastfeed. A separate area for infants and an oversized “seating landscape” offer just the right sensory stimulus for a range of age groups; ceiling-mounted mirrored silhouettes feature prominent Linz personalities and famous sights. The whole of KINDERPUNKT09 was designed with children in mind—the infrastructure includes a bottle warmer, child-friendly toilets and a canteen where families can enjoy snacks they’ve brought along on their outing. Linz09 staged a petition drive seeking to preserve this facility and its services—alas, to no avail. KINDERPUNKT09 will close on December 20, but it’ll be going out on a high note: a party featuring face-painting and cookies from 10 AM to 5 PM. The entertainment lineup includes two plays: “Das Rotkäppchen” (Little Red Riding Hood, age 4 and up) asks what would have happened if there’d been no big, bad wolf; in “Tek und Tük finden das Glück” (Tek and Tük Discover Happiness, age 3 and up), the protagonists care for a freshly-hatched little critter.
