The opening of the TIEFENRAUSCH – Rapture of the Deep exhibition on Thursday, May 29, 2008 was a smashing success! A crowd estimated at 600 jammed the OK Center for Contemporary Art from the subterranean level all the way to the rooftop terrace.

Popular actor
Ferry Öllinger served as MC of the opening ceremony held—fittingly enough—in the facility’s underground garage. He first introduced the show’s producers, Linz09 Artistic Director
Martin Heller and OK Director
Martin Sturm. Next up were the evening’s featured speakers, Upper Austria’s Governor
Josef Pühringer, Linz Deputy Mayor
Erich Watzl and Linz AG CEO
Alois Froschauer.
Present as a fitting complement to the
TIEFENRAUSCH theme were people whose occupations take them below ground in Linz: staff members of Linz AG’s natural gas and sewage divisions as well as funeral directors and spelunkers.
Following a visit to the Museum of the Underworlds in the OK, guests went by shuttle bus to the exhibition in the
Aktienkeller tunnel system, the setting of works by 35 artists on the subject of “Remembering – Forgetting.” The opening ceremony concluded with a get-together back above ground in the Rose Garden of Linz’s Botanical Garden.

TIEFENRAUSCH will run until July 13th at the Museum of the Underworlds in the OK, in the
Aktienkeller, along
Landstraße, on OK
Platz and in the crypts, tunnels and cisterns of Linz.
