Linz’s Klangwolke (Cloud of Sound) has been staged in and around the Brucknerhaus for about 30 years. Now, this musical spectacle is being temporarily transplanted to Austria's capital for a KLANGWOLKE REVIVAL on the grounds of Vienna’s MuseumsQuartier.

In 1979, the first LINZER KLANGWOLKE transformed the city into an experimental acoustic space. This “Ur-Klangwolke” is being revived on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at 6 p.m. in front of the MuseumsQuartier in Vienna. Nearly 30 years ago, Linzers were called upon to place their radios on their window sills as auxiliaries of the installation in the Donaupark. Now, to commemorate this first KLANGWOLKE in the heart of downtown Vienna, little radios are being handed out free of charge and Anton Bruckner’s Symphony No. 8 will be broadcast on ORF – Austrian Broadcasting Company’s radio station Ö1 at 7:30 p.m. just as it was back in 1979. Afterwards, the celebration will continue with Upper Austrian delicacies served in the atrium of Architekturzentrum Wien.

In conjunction with the “reloaded” KLANGWOLKE, Architekturzentrum Wien is showcasing the LINZ TEXAS. A CITY RELATES exhibition. Through September 8, visitors can journey to Linz’s urban relatives—in Texas and throughout the world.
