Here’s to an enjoyable Capital of Culture year! This past Monday in Linz’s Altes Rathaus, the Linz09 Assortment was unveiled. These select wines and spirits will be available at fine dining & drinking establishments beginning Monday, September 8, 2008.

In cooperation with the hotspots gastronomy network, Linz 2009 European Capital of Culture premiered its line of alcoholic beverages at a public presentation.
Numerous top-name growers created wines and spirits especially for the Capital of Culture. The following products emerged as the winners of a blind taste test and have now been accepted into the Linz09 Assortment:

  • 2007 Grüner Veltliner “Linz09,” Weingut Jurtschitsch
  • 2007 Red Wine Cuvée “Linz09,” Schlossweingut Malteser Ritterorden
  • Sparkling Apple Cider “Der Brünnerling – Linz09,” Wilfried Hirschvogel
  • Pear Brandy “Gute Luise – Linz09,” Hans Reisetbauer
  • Apple Brandy Aged in Oak Barrels “Linz09,“ Hans Reisetbauer
  • 2007 Organic Cuvée, White & Red, “Linz09,” Biowinzer Alfred Paradeiser

To get Upper Austria into a good mood during the lead-in to the Capital of Culture year, hotspots is inviting those who enjoy fine wines to a tasting being staged simultaneously in all 54 hotspots on Friday, September 5, 2008, when you can try an eighth-of-a-liter glass of Linz09 wine for the special price of only 2 euros.
Beginning on Monday, September 8, 2008, the Linz09 Assortment will be available in restaurants, cafés and taverns at their regular prices. The wines as well as the schnapps and sparkling cider will also be available at three Linz wholesalers, Weinhof/Vinothek Schenkenfelder, Weinturm and Weinhaus Wakolbinger, where they can also be purchased by private individuals for their own consumption. Proprietors of food & beverage establishments, retailers and institutions are also invited to participate as vendors of the Linz09 Assortment.
