31 October is the deadline for artists and scientists to submit suggestions for “80+1 – A Journey Around the World” and to send Linz off on its trip around the world.

As opposed to the sportsman Phileas Fogg from Jules Verne’s 1873 novel, “Around the World in 80 Days”, who went around the world by steamer and train, the journey in the Linz09 project “80+1” will take place via light-wave cable and satellite dish. While it is in progress, the question of what our future is going to look like will be raised in 20 places worldwide, all of which will put together a picture of our globalized, networking world. Artistic and scientific projects will enable an ongoing exchange between Linz and each of these places, which will be presented, as part of Capital Culture Year, on a large-screen TV – the “Window to the World” – in Linz’s Hauptplatz.
The creative process underlying the project has not yet been finalized: ideas and artistic projects are welcome, the deadline being the end of October.
