Filmmaker Micha Shagrir is a native of Linz who has lived in Israel since 1938. On November 4, he’ll receive the Gold Medal of Honor of the City of Linz. Linz09 extends its congratulations.

What does the Linz of the future know about the Linz of the past? This was the question that filmmaker/director Micha Shagrir asked in his film “Linz. Bischofstraße.” Shagrir was born in Linz in 1937. In one of history’s bizarre twists of fate, his family—prior to being driven out of Austria—lived in the immediate vicinity of Adolf Eichmann’s family. At the heart of “Linz. Bischofstraße” is Shagrir’s own life story. As part of the close look the film takes at the present and future of Linz, it also focuses on the Capital of Culture.
