“Kepler Salon” Quenches the Thirst for Knowledge

Johannes Kepler lived in Linz from 1612 to 1627. Beginning January 12th in the scientist and astronomer’s former residence, the tradition of intellectual inquiry will be carried on there.

What in the world is mechatronics? How do frogs communicate? Will taxpayers end up getting stuck with the bill for the global financial meltdown? And must we fear going to hell?
Answers to these and other questions dealing with a wide array of issues and fields will be offered by “Kepler Salon” beginning January 12, 2009. Universities, educational institutions and medical centers are disseminating knowledge, providing access to their research in a dialog with scientists, and presenting it in a way that is understandable by the general public. “Kepler Salon” will also be making an effort to satisfy young people’s desire for understanding: “Salon of the Sly Foxes” has been conceived by KinderUniSteyr for kids age 7-12. Here, the accent isn’t on ambitious acquisition of knowledge, but rather on curiosity about the world, fun with experimentation and the joys of scientific thinking.
“Kepler Salon” will kick off on January 12, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. with an address by mathematician Rudolf Taschner. The co-founder of the highly successful “math.space” in Vienna’s Museumsquartier will speak on “Mathematics as Beacon of the Enlightenment.”
