Twelve up-and-coming young acts from the new EU-member states will be leaving their musical calling cards at Linz’s Posthof during the Capital of Culture year. This acoustic journey through Eastern Europe kicks off on January 16 with four bands from Slovakia.

Latin American, African and Asian sounds are no longer novelties in this neck of the woods, but music from the new EU-member states doesn’t seem to have made its way yet across the scrap heap that was the Iron Curtain. Linz09’s “A Dozen of Europe” project is now spreading the word loud and clear. Get wise to Pagan Metal from Latvia, Grindcore Jazz from Poland, World Dub Trance from Hungary and Gypsy Groove from Bulgaria. Bands from the former Eastern bloc will be building bridges made of music from Rock to World and from Electronic to Pop.
Slovakia leads things off on January 16. The on-stage lineup features Hrdza, Pink Big Pig, Druzina and Double Affair. A really easy way to line up tickets is to click here.
