Drummer, singer and composer Doug Hammond is a jazz legend. And what’s more—he lives in Linz! For Linz09, he’s created an orchestral work.

Hammond was born in 1942 in Tampa, Florida. His jazz career got underway in the early ‘60s as drummer for Earl Hooker, Charles Mingus, Sonny Rollins, Sammy Price and Nina Simone. He arrived in Europe in 1975. Hammond founded his own trio with Steve Coleman and cellist Muneer Abdul Fataah in 1981. Composing is an essential facet of his musical creativity. “Roots&New Dreams,” a jazz orchestral work created expressly for Linz09, will be performed by Hammond’s Dream Band.
