Midsummer Night’s Music with the Bruckner Orchestra

Frischluftklassik
18.06.2009

The Bruckner Orchestra led by chief conductor Dennis Russell Davies is Upper Austria’s premier symphony orchestra. It’s also made quite a name for itself worldwide. Later this month, the Bruckner Orchestra will perform at Classics Alfresco. Admission is free.

Classical music, an open-air setting, free for one and all—that’s the motto of Classics Alfresco. There are two evening concerts on this year's lineup. “Working Class (Heroes)” on June 26 includes Symphony No. 2 in B major by Shostakovich, Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite and Symphony No. 4 Heroes by Philip Glass. The audience at the “Dance Dance Dance” program on June 27 gets to enjoy, among other treats, excerpts from Leonard Bernstein’s “West Side Story.”
The concert venue is an extraordinary one: the construction site of the Music Theater now going up adjacent to Linz’s Volksgarten park. Thus, superb performances are breathing cultural life into this facility even before its planned completion and official opening in 2011.
