On five upcoming weekends, the Culture Bathing project invites you to partake of the Danube in a utopian, off-beat setting—strolling its banks and swimming its waters. Summertime theatre outings let you experience the culture beyond the Capital of Culture.

The little town of Ottensheim, situated on the Danube just outside of Linz, is well-known for its vibrant cultural scene. So it’s no wonder that this is precisely where the concept for a project like Culture Bathing originated. Between June 20 and August 2, the banks of the Danube will be the setting for a utopian gathering that can be experienced in the form of itinerant theater. Letters of the alphabet will be fished out of the river, books cleansed of their words, homemade paper ships launched on their way to a watery demise, and swimmers dispatched on a river journey to Linz. This all sounds quite unusual—and indeed it is—but it will definitely open up an enchanting, imaginative waterworld to all who attend. Part 1 of the project is entitled “Eddy.” What’s so special about it: viewers can choose whether they want to be observers or protagonists in this extraordinary domain, whether to stroll or swim.
