LIVA Linzer Veranstaltungsgesellschaft mbH, one of Upper Austria’s largest cultural organizations, and Linz09 recently formalized their collaborative relationship in conjunction with the Capital of Culture year and unveiled some joint projects.

LIVA’s venues include the Brucknerhaus with its classical and contemporary concert program, the Posthof, docklands home of state-of-the-art European culture, Kuddelmuddel, a center dedicated to cultural activities for kids, as well as Linz’s major sites for sporting events. For the Capital of Culture year, several projects are currently being planned in cooperation with the Brucknerhaus and the Posthof. These range from commissioned works of music theater—composers Bernhard Lang and Franz Hummel have already made a commitment to an opera project—to festivals and concert evenings. Linz’s Festival 4020 will be held twice in 2009: the first installment, “Song,” is dedicated to vocal artistry from the Renaissance to the present day; Part II is entitled “God” and showcases many facets of ecclesiastic music. Art in public space will also play a role in the 2009 lineup: “Parade” invites its audience to partake of auditory experiences amidst the urban soundscape. And the rest of Europe will be doing guest appearances in Linz: “A Dozen Europes” presents 12 concerts in 12 months, each one featuring the musical influences of one of the 12 new member states of the European Union.
