Enthusiastic Response to “Normality,” the 2009 Festival of the Regions

The geographic center of gravity of the 2009 Festival of the Regions will be the satellite towns of Auwiesen and SolarCity on the southern outskirts of Linz. Collaboration with Linz09 is enabling the festival to commission additional works and stage more curated projects.
The call for project proposals for the next Festival of the Regions produced 330 submissions from 33 countries. This was an unprecedented response on the part of artists to the 2009 festival being produced in conjunction with the European Capital of Culture. “Normalzustand” (Normality) will focus on the satellite towns of Auwiesen and SolarCity on the southern outskirts of Linz. Festival Director Martin Fritz is overjoyed: “I’m very much looking forward to doing the concrete planning over the coming months. The range of conceptual and practical possibilities open to us now is wider than it’s ever been.”
