The Capital of Culture year is providing a big boost to the regional economy. According to the latest poll, more than 1.3 million Austrians are planning to come to town during Linz09. And there’s definitely a lot more potential here, considering that about 70% of the population regards Linz09 as a thoroughly positive development.

Linz09 recently commissioned SPECTRA to survey attitudes toward the Capital of Culture year. The market research organization scientifically polled more than 1,300 persons in Linz, in Upper Austria and nationwide. The results are highly gratifying for the most part. 58% of Austrians are already aware that Linz will be European Capital of Culture next year, and more than a third of the population expressed interest in Linz09’s program of events. In Linz itself, 58% of those interviewed are interested in Capital of Culture projects.
A particular source of optimism is the prospective number of visitors yielded by the study’s findings. One out of five Austrians will “definitely” travel to Linz in 2009 for the express purpose of attending Linz09 events and exhibitions. More than half of this country’s population is at least considering a visit to Linz—an enormous prospective audience that Linz09 is optimally targeting with a custom-designed marketing and sales campaign.
