Focuses on the Entry Restrictions Placed on Bosnian Citizens

Kopfstand 09
22.09.2008

2008 is the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue. In this spirit, the next Kopfstand09 presentation on September 23 will address a very sensitive issue: the entry requirements Austrian imposes on the citizens of Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Bosnia-Herzegovina is certainly making progress towards joining the EU. But as far as entering Austria is concerned, the citizens of this successor state of Yugoslavia feel like they’re back behind the Iron Curtain! The fruitful process of exchange among foreign and domestic artists and intellectuals is being made increasing difficult by these restrictive visa policies. But by instituting them, isn’t Austria actually stigmatizing and marginalizing itself? Samir Rizvo, head of the Bosnian team for the liberalization of visa requirements, will describe the current situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina and discuss the requirements faced by that country’s citizens wishing to travel to Austria.
