A New Surprise Every Day: Linz09 Advent Calendar and Theatrical Advent Calendar

Instead of the Three Wise Men, four Royal Families are the bearers of gifts on the Linz09 Advent Calendar. And the Theatrical Advent Calendar offers two dozen unique experiences.
Hot toddies, mulled wine and Christmas cookies will be the seasonal treats featured at the opening of the first window of Linz09’s Advent Calendar on Saturday, November 29, 2008 at 6 PM at Café Centrum on Hofgasse in Linz. 6 PM daily thereafter, an additional secret will be aired: what gifts the four Royal Families on their way to Bethlehem have left behind in Linz to betoken good things to come during the Capital of Culture year?Instead of the usual 24, there’ll be 32 windows to open this year, as the lead-in to Christmas segues into the countdown to Linz assuming the European Capital of Culture title.
The Theatrical Advent Calendar, with its 24 little shuttered windows, goes about things in classic style. Under the motto “24times UNIQUE,” artists working in a wide array of genres and styles offer their individual takes on the Christmas season. The identity of the surprise guest will be made public just prior to the beginning of the program. The Theatrical Advent Calendar is for grown-ups and kids age 14 and up. The final door will be opened on December 24 at 10 AM at an event designed for youngsters age 6 and up and their young-at-heart chaperones.
