It isn’t necessary to wait for a round-number year to come around again to celebrate special occasions. At least that’s how Linz09 sees it. In this spirit, we invite you to “Frost, Aurora and the Two-Pole Technique” that will include, among other events, ski jumping on Pöstlingberg.

Performances, installations and sculptures will be presented in four event-blocks over the course of 2009 to mark non-round-number anniversaries of some of the most interesting, bizarre and memorable events in the city’s history. The first of these “Odd Anniversaries” will be celebrated on Saturday, February 14, 2009—58,942,080 minutes since the first screening of a motion picture in Linz. And of course, 80 years minus one day after the coldest day in recent memory is the perfect occasion to enjoy an ice-cold cocktail in the back of a freezer truck. Plus, we’ll be reviving Linz’s 105-year-old ski jumping tradition and inviting daredevils on skis and snowboards to show what they’re made of on Pöstlingberg. So join the merriment and let yourself be pleasantly surprised by the “other” history of Linz!
