A Discussion Focusing on Europe

Extra Europa Symposium

“Extra Europa” kicks off with a two-day symposium featuring an array of prominent participants. They’ll be scrutinizing the continent’s diversity, examining the question of European identity, looking at how the EU is seen from within and without, and dealing with the challenges facing Europe.

Six panels will examine various facets of what constitutes Europe and the EU. Featured panelist are scholars, journalists and people active in cultural affairs in Norway, Switzerland and Turkey. They’ll be discussing economic issues, security policy, the general attitude of their respective countries to the EU, and, among other themes, how art and culture can contribute to the creation of a European identity.
In addition to the Norwegian, Swiss and Turkish ambassadors and other high-echelon representatives of these three countries and the EU, Austrian President Heinz Fischer will attend the symposium opening.
