Noise diminishes our quality of life. “Acoustic City,” a major Linz09 project, has declared war on noise and is actively campaigning for greater sensitivity to our acoustic environment. In conjunction with International Noise Awareness Day on April 29, particular attention will be paid to hearing.

International Noise Awareness Day has become established as a worldwide initiative to promote the importance of reducing noise in our lives. As a symbolic gesture, we’re asking people in Linz to make a concerted effort to completely eliminate noise from 2:15 to 2:16 PM. In the Centralkino Acoustic Refuge (Landstr. 36), free hearing tests will be offered from 12 Noon until 7 PM. Then, star columnist Hans Rauscher will join us there for the public debut of the book “Hörstadt. Ein Reiseführer durch die Welt des Hörens” (Acoustic City. A Guidebook to the World of Hearing). International Noise Awareness Day also marks the start of an effort by acoustic experts to assess whether cutting environmental noise in half is a realistic goal.
