There are so many impressive vantage points around Linz. But the opening of the Linzer Eye provides an observation platform that reveals some fascinating new perspectives. This rotating island will soon be floating on the Danube. A wonderful spot for riverfront relaxation!

This floating, rotating platform on the riverbank adjacent to the Ars Electronica Center can accommodate up to 200 visitors at once. Paddles mounted on its underside catch the Danube’s current and gently rotate the round deck at an average speed of about half a meter per second. This “perpetual-motion machine” can also be used as a stage for plays and musical events. Construction has taken four months. The Linzer Eye is a gift to the City of Linz from the Chamber of Architects and Consulting Engineers of the Provinces of Upper Austria and Salzburg.
