Linz has a new cultural venue: the building of the former Imperial Salt Authority, located only a stone’s throw from the Danube, has been transformed into “Atelierhaus Salzamt”, complete with exhibition spaces, studios and living quarters for artists.

Atelierhaus Salzamt will be a meeting place and a place for the exchange of ideas for visual artists from abroad and from Austria. The project “Urban Interventions”, for instance, for which funding is provided by the EU, will attract artists from Liverpool, Tallinn, Istanbul and Dortmund, who will be working and putting on exhibitions at the Atelierhaus. This involves return invitations for artists from Linz to the partner cities. The first exhibition of works by painters and photographers taking part in “Urban Interventions” opened on 27 July.
