Linz’s Hauptplatz is the site of a futuristic piece of architecture featuring a reflective metallic façade—the Base Camp of the “80+1 – A Journey around the World” project. This building is the setting for global excursions via satellite and fiber optic cable to the furthest reaches of our planet.

What does progress mean in our high-tech world? What role will recycling play in our planet’s future? What’s the significance of identity in the Internet Age of virtual realities and online profiles? These are the issues that “80+1 – A Journey around the World” will be dealing with in coming weeks. The considerations will be accompanied by some very creative high-tech art projects. For instance, you can reach out across the face of the Earth and shake hands with people in Istanbul or Bangalore! To deal with the subject of identity, 80+1 presents a custom-made “Microbloggingsuit” that provides industrial workers with the opportunity to get connected to the internet and, amidst the anonymity of their workplace, send personal messages via communications devices integrated right into their clothing.
