“Theatre Mania2: Sunburn” means summer-style theatergoing. It’s also synonymous with programming diversity. Here, we present for your consideration two very dissimilar productions—both don’t-miss theatrical experiences!

Luk Perceval, the prominent Flemish director whose work has been featured at top European theaters and festivals, has undertaken an intensive encounter with Linz, its defining characteristics and, above all, its history. He has come here to personally conduct this search for traces of the past. The upshot is a film about real stories set in the system of subterranean passageways hidden below the city. These tunnels were dug by prisoners from the Mauthausen concentration camp. Perceval’s film is a look beneath Linz’s skin, a film about hidden history. “The Concealed City” will be shown as a projection on a limestone wall of the Limonistollen tunnels, a spot that was used for film screenings in the past as well.
The Membros Company comes from Macaé, a city with one of the highest murder rates in Brazil. Accordingly, graphic narratives about violence, the society and its social problems are core themes of the “Raio X, Febre, Medo” trilogy. For choreographers Paulo Azevedo and Taís Vieira and the company’s dancers, hip-hop is a possibility to formulate alternatives to social problems, and an opportunity to break out of the trap in which one seems to be ensnared. These are three evenings of dance with gripping visual power.
