The Klangwolke (Cloud of Sound) is Linz’s signature alfresco extravaganza. Ever since this legendary event debuted in 1979, it annually attracts a crowd topping 100,000 to the riverside Donaupark. The 2009 Klangwolke will be a full-day production.

The excitement starts early this year! On the afternoon of September 5, hundreds of fairytale creatures—artistically designed figures that volunteers from Linz and vicinity have been conjuring up over recent weeks—will be parading through town, accompanied by music-makers and prophets. The creatures’ initial appearance foreshadows the dramatic events to come later in the day. Nightfall signals the commencement of Part 2 of the 2009 Klangwolke entitled “Flood.” The themes of calamity, rescue and survival are brought together in a spectacular open-air drama featuring live music, video projections and pyrotechnic displays.
