“zone06“

Hidden Town

The new Linz 2009 website has an interactive background: the ‘zone06’ designed by the Ars Electronica Futurelab.
Around each individual page of www.linz09.at, the grey shaded frame can be clicked on and brought into the foreground.

The ‘zone06’ provides a platform for current art and community projects which are relevant to Linz. In this way, a dynamic kaleidoscope of various different forms of artistic debate relating to Linz today is developed. At the same time, ‘zone06’ illustrates and comments on the processes which characterise the city on its way to becoming European capital of culture. In the coming years, ‘zone07’ and ‘zone08’ will also be developed.

The first project presented is ‘hidden town’ by Gregor Graf (*1976).
In this photographic work, the artist offers a view of a city purged of signs. All of the signs which the eye is accustomed to seeing have been systematically removed – street and traffic signs, street lamps, advertisements, etc. What remains are motifs which bring the architecture and structure of the image motifs back into the foreground.
