Slovenia will Nominate the 2012 European Capital of Culture

05.12.2006

A Portuguese and a Slovenian city will be European Capitals of Culture in 2012. In Slovenia, 11 cities have announced they’re in the running.

The Slovenian candidates are Ljubljana, Maribor, Celje, Ptuj, Koper, Kranj, Velenje, Murska Sobota, Slovenj Gradec, Nova Gorica and Novo mesto. From this national selection, the Slovenian Ministry Of Culture will nominate a short list from which the EU will select the winner. On December 18 in Ljubljana, the Ministry Of Culture will be conducting a workshop for all candidate cities, and they’ve also invited representatives of Linz 2009 and Pécs 2010 to attend. This will be a great opportunity to hear Ulrich Fuchs discuss his experience with the Capital of Culture candidacy process in Bremen and provide an update about how things are shaping up in Linz.
