Dancer/choreographer Faustin Linyekula has found an interesting approach to the problem of creating a performance about his country‘s brutal and violent history. The show is a grandiose party, with food, drink, music, dancing and stories. And because the truth can be very painful, the stories are all lies.
The evening turns into a competition to see who can tell the most outrageously mendacious story of all. Three dancers and an actress take the audience along on an excursion into a dream world. The six musicians of S.K. International team up with Flip from Texta at the mike and turntables to deliver a mix of hip hop, jazz, rare groove and dope beats to really get things moving on the dance floor.
The three-hour premiere performance was followed by an audience Q&A session. A six-hour version of this extraordinary theatrical experience will be staged on Friday evening in Linz.
