Hubert von Goisern
Linz Europa Tour 2007 – 2009
Tour-ending Concert in Linz, September 1, 2007

8,000 Concertgoers in the Donaupark

To mark the conclusion of the first leg of the Linz Europa Tour, Hubert von Goisern got together with some friends for a rousing concert in the tour’s home port, Linz.

Despite a rainy forecast, 8,000 people turned out at the floating stage moored in front of the Brucknerhaus. “We experienced so much that I have to work it out in my own mind first,” he said, and turned over the stage for the first two and a half hours to some musical friends, a few of whom had been on board for the ride down the Danube. The Hohtraxlecker Sprungschanznmusi from Bad Ischl, Austria were a big hit with their fresh interpretation of Alpine folk music. Rambo Amadeus, a singer, songwriter and guitarist from Montenegro, then unleashed his own brand of turbo-folk to the delight of a crowd that didn’t understand a single word of his lyrics! Hubert von Goisern and his band then took the stage together with Bulgarian viola da gamba virtuoso Darinka Tsekova and entertained concertgoers in Linz’s riverside Danube Park until late into the night. “Heast as net,” one of Hubert von Goisern’s biggest hits, was the stirring conclusion of the first stage of the Linz Europa Tour.

The First Leg of the Linz Europa Tour 2007-2009 Concludes

It took Hubert von Goisern and his band two and a half months to sail down the Danube to the Black Sea and back. As roving ambassador of Linz 2009 European Capital of Culture, he visited 10 countries and gave 22 concerts together with local artists. Their collaborative aim is to use music as a wordless means of communication that transcends borders. On September 1, 2007 the flotilla arrived back at its home port, Linz, and then celebrated the occasion with one last concert.

The Next Installment Follows in 2008

The second stage of the tour kicks off next year. Then, Hubert von Goisern will be westbound on the Danube, Main and Rhine. Destination: Rotterdam. The tour’s grand finale comes in 2009 with a multi-day musical extravaganza at Linz Harbor featuring all participating artists.
