Press Conference
Thursday, 18 December 2008

From 18 December 2008 – the International Migrants’ Day – Linz will be making an exhibition of itself by putting up unusual city boundary signs. At 18 entry points to the city on busy thoroughfares 36 additional boundary signs will be put up displaying the city’s name in all the scripts currently in use in Linz

The boundary signs are a visible affirmation of the city’s cultural pluralism and are meant as a token of respect for all our citizens who come from a migration background and contribute to the city’s cultural climate. By actively accepting the city’s multilingualism we endorse the need for and the desirability of that basic democratic attitude which is a precondition for so many aspects of living together in one environment.
