Press Release
29 December 2008

We’re happy to announce that KINDERPUNKT09, a place set aside especially for children and families during the Capital of Culture year, will be opening on February 10, 2008 in the former premises of the Bürgerservice (citizens assistance center) in the Altes Rathaus.

KINDERPUNKT09 is the go-to point for information and expert advice about cultural offerings for youngsters in Linz during the Capital of Culture year. Plus, it’s an ideal spot to rest, relax, play, change diapers, breastfeed, chat and much, much more…

In line with the motto “Linz changes,” kids up to age 11 are cordially invited to get acquainted with many different facets of the City of Linz in a playful and highly unconventional way, to explore an over-dimensional “seating landscape” and to discover all sorts on new and interesting stuff about this city. Mirror silhouettes on the ceiling display well-known Linz personalities, architecture and works of art—the challenge is to match them to the corresponding photos. Special “showcases” present prominent cultural institutions. This facility is designed for families; child care is not available. Parents are responsible for their children.

The “quiet space” area for infants is equipped with playthings appropriate for this age group and offers our youngest visitors just the right sensory stimulus. A canteen provides a setting to enjoy snacks you’ve brought along and also offers infrastructure like a bottle warmer and a coffee machine. Diaper-changing facilities and kid-sized toilet seats have been installed.

KINDERPUNKT09 will be open Tuesday to Friday, 2 to 6 PM; weekends and holidays, 10 AM to 5 PM. Opening hours will be extended during school breaks.

Conceived by ZOOM Children’s Museum and Linz09; interior design by Walking Chair Design Studio GmbH, Vienna (Karl Emilio Pircher, Fidel Peugot & Staff); installation by Kirchberger Linz.

A press conference about Kinderpunkt09 will be held at the end of January 2009.
