The peaceful coexistence of 2009’s two Capitals of Culture was deceptive. This whimsical Linz vs. Vilnius showdown was designed to determine the real cultural superstar once and for all!

We live in a world of competitions and casting shows. There are winners of Nobel Prizes, Academy Awards, and the Song Contest… because everybody wants to see a victor crowned, and capitals of culture are no exception. In this spirit, Mssrs. Juhann and Jod invited various representatives of Linz and Vilnius to take part in a sort of Dancing Stars of Culture. On five themed evenings, audiences gleaned amazing insights into the two candidates’ music, literature, cuisine, history and language. This fray featured such spirited gladiators as writer Franzobel and musician Hans-Georg Gutternigg; the charming referees were Mssrs. Juhann and Jod themselves. Involved in provocative cultural acts since 1996, the duo fanned the flames until it was established beyond reasonable doubt which of the two cities was more deserving of the title “2009 European Capital of Culture.” In the end, a 3:2 decision by the hometown fans gave the edge to Linz.
