Stifter lesen / Reading Stifter

Stifter lesen

Reading Stifter against the grain: unusual guests read and re-interpret Stifter.

Texts enter into existence by being read. If you accept this premise, it follows that there are as many versions of a book as there are readers of it. One and the same text—a work by Stifter, for instance—therefore exists in a limitless number of variations. Homage was paid to Linz’s literary ancestors twice during the Capital of Culture year. This time, StifterHaus and Linz09 sought not only some of Adalbert Stifter’s special texts that occupy a place alongside his most famous works but also some very special readers of them. Udo Wachtveitl and Andrea Sawatzki, two performers who play police detectives on a popular Austrian TV series, are true aficionados of Stifter’s work and did a great job in their dramatic readings of these difficult texts!
