One of the simplest, oldest and most beautiful forms of theatre anywhere: made with shadows from the light of a flickering oil lamp.

In the Balinese WAYANG KULIT a single puppeteer presents an entire epic from the Mahabharata, manipulating all the figures and providing all the voices himself. I Wayan Wija, an undisputed master of this traditional form which combines ritual, teaching and entertainment, is more often seen with his cast of gamelan musicians performing in temples in the paddy fields of Bali. For two nights only you can see his amazing fight sequences and slapstick humour in the fragrant surroundings of Linz's Botanical Garden.
