LinzFest has been the entertainment highlight of Whitsuntide for 20 years now. This time around, in the spirit of 2009, Linz is welcoming visitors from Europe’s 2008-2013 Capitals of Culture. This is a don’t-miss event for the whole family!

About 100 musicians, cabaret performers, actors and literati will represent their respective city and present their artistry on stages erected in a lovely park setting on the banks of the Danube between the Lentos Art Museum and the Brucknerhaus concert hall. Headliners include Jan Delay, Mogwai and Turkish hiphop superstar Ceza. The gala Culture Picnic in the riverside Donaupark has established itself as a Whit Monday tradition.
It’ll also be quite “capitally cultural” at YES09! The Youth European Soccer Cup competition among football teams representing European Capitals of Culture and Linz’s sister cities will also be held during LinzFest09 weekend. The tournament’s patron is Austrian football star Ivica Vastic. Guest of honor at the kickoff on May 30 will be Willi Lemke, former manager of Werder Bremen and Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary-General on Sport for Development and Peace.
